Sand Tarts

I am not sure just why they are called Sand Tarts?? My Granny made these little cookies and this is her recipe. Many cultures have something similar to these cookies. Kinda like a wedding cookie. They are great, why ~ easy, they last, everyone likes them.

1 cup butter
1/4 cup powdered sugar 10X
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 tablespoon water
2 cups flour
1 1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 box powdered sugar

Cream butter and 1/4 cup powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and water, then flour mixing well, add nuts. Roll into balls, use about 1 tablespoon of the dough. Place about 1-2 inches apart. Bake on pan with parchment paper for 25 minutes at 325. After you remove it is better to roll cookies into the powdered sugar while still warm ~ these keep well for days ~ best to hind them…if you want them to last that long.
