Okay I am almost embarrassed to post this ~ REALLY
These are so easy and so stinking yummy!! We use to have them at church dinners back when I was a kid remember these ole things heee heee I do! Well, see I bought so much 7-Up to make pound cakes and those coconut cakes. I had it around and thought oh what the heck sounds good and easy lets try them once again. I thought it will be a good way to use up all this 7-Up so I made them and oh dear me they are as good as I remembered really good ~ no kidding and they are the easiest things in the world to make! REALLY!
7 Up Biscuits
4 cups Bisquick
1 cup sour cream
1 cup 7-up
1/2 cup melted butter
Melt butter and put and place in a baking pan
cut sour cream into the Bisquick
mix in and dump on a well floured surface ~ I used parchment paper, makes clean up easy
then I pat out just with my hand or roll out about 1 inch thick
flour your cutter each time before cutting your biscuits. Once you cut your biscuits add to your pan with the butter.
Bake at 425 until golden brown and enjoy ~ see those boys got to them before I even got a picture WOW ~
Mom here is a half recipe for you~
2 cups bisquick
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup 7-up
1/4 cup melted butter
Easy Homemade Biscuits Recipe — powered by ehow

These biscuits looked so good & easy to make I had to try them the same day I read your e-mail.
They were delicious straight out of the pan. Then I decided they would make a perfect upside down chicken pot pie. I mixed cooked chicken & all the fresh veggies I like (corn, onion, carrots & peas) together in chicken broth with some corn starch as thickener and poured it over a split biscuit. Try it, if you have any left over biscuits!
Keep the recipes coming!
Great…so glad you liked them!! I will try the chicken pot pie. Thanks dear!! xoxo
Can you use Jiffey baking mix instead of bisquick?
I have never used Jiffy brand baking mix…but, I would think you could. I have used pioneer brand before. I did not like it as much as the bisquick. Sorry….let me know how it turns out if you do.
Well we all loved them, they were better than any biscuits I have ever tried to make before. But since this is the first time with the sour cream and 7-up, I can’t compare the Jiffy mix to any of the others. I think I will try the Bisquick next time. Can’t wait to fix them for breakfast sometime!
Thank You!
Great….I am so glad they turned out for you!! Success! Thanks for letting me know they did work with the Jiffy brand. I have used their brownie mix when I was younger and loved it…but can not seem to find it any more? Have a lovely day and thanks for visiting my site!!
I saw your recipe yesterday and am making it for breakfast this morning…..they look delicious! My batter seemed a little soft, a little hard to handle I hoping they turn out as pretty as yours! Thanks for sharing!
Karen…I do hope they turned out. When I made them the 1st time I thought the very same thing….this is not going to work. These are too wet. They turned out great and have each time. I do fill the pan and place them close together. I do think they helps them rise and fluff up. I wish you success with them.
They did not fluff up at all
I’ll have to give it another shot.. the flavor was good.
awww I am sorry!!
Fresh Bisquick works the best. I tend to have Bisquick that’s been opened a couple of months and I’ll sometimes get flat biscuits because of that.
Thanks…Paul that is great to know!! We use it so fast around here. Does not have time to get old.
Paul, thank you! Mine didn’t rise nearly as well as they should have. Best get some fresh Bisquick mix! Otherwise these were scrumptious!
These biscuits need to be served at the Williams House for breakfast!
I hope the William’s enjoy them!!
I made with Sprite Zero cause thats all I had on hand. The four of us thought they were fantastic!!
Anne…glad they worked for you ~ see always give it a try some times you have a great winner! thanks for letting us know!
I have a batch of these in the oven now. Next time, I may add either less 7 up or more bisquick because my dough was a tad too sticky when I picked up my cut out biscuits.
I flour the work surface well and tops. I will say mine are very sticky as well and turn out just right! Moist and soft inside hope yours do as well!
[...] They gave her so much grief, she deleted that pin, and found another recipe for 7.Up Biscuits at Angie’s Southern Kitchen. The only difference is that it is double the original recipe that Super Sister [...]
Thanks Lana for the link…what an honor! You made my day!! Plus I found a new blog to follow!! “Yours” Thanks! Dear! Have a lovely day..smiles!
I just made these and they were GREAT!!!
Thanks Cassie…… thanks for commenting and letting us know!! Funny how 4 little things can turn out so yummy!! Thanks for visiting and please come on back soon! Happy Baking !
Finally, I can stop searching for a good biscuit recipe! These were easy to make and were delicious.
Crystal, I am so glad you liked them !! Thanks for visiting and letting us know you give them a thumbs up!!
I never use Bisquick. I usually make my biscuits and pancakes from scratch. But I’ve heard so many people saying how great these biscuits are, I’m going to give them a try. I was just wondering whether you’ve ever heard of anyone trying to replicate these biscuits by combining the sour cream and 7-Up with a home-made recipe and leaving out the Bisquick?
Shane…I have 2 other recipes for biscuits from scratch not using bisquick. Southern Buttermilk Biscuits and Angie’s Pork Pops try one of those if you are not crazy about using bisquick. Go up to the top and there is a cookbook section in pick click on it and go to breads and you will see other recipes. But, I will say you will be surprised at how good they are with 4 ingredients and how easy they are. Thanks for visiting and let us know which ones you try and what you think ~ have a lovely day!!
Yes, I used self rising flour instead of Bisquick and the biscuits worked just fine. Cut a little shortening or butter into the SR flour if you want. I don’t think I even did that. I also always add a little extra baking powder to the SR flour.
Just an FYI. After I stirred this together, I thought this is just too wet. So I looked at the Bisquick box and they mentioned just plopping them in a pan. I made a quarter of this recipe and plopped 4 biscuits into a 9 x 9 pan. They didn’t raise up nice and fluffy, but they were awesome! As long as it’s for family. I will plop, plop away! Biscuits are in the oven in an instant.
Can I pre-make the dough and put it in the fridge to bake later in the day?
Kim, seriously, there is no need to pre-make them. It literally just takes less than 2 minutes to stir together and throw them in the oven.
I just generously coat them with flour on bottom and top and that seems to help try that!
About how long before they are “golden brown” I can’t ever seem to get things right unless I get a time estimate.
I would say about 12-15 minutes would be golden ~ My oven cooks so much hotter than most. Hope you enjoy them!!
Should you use flat 7-UP? I am thinking that you need the bubbles in this recipe? Anna
Anna…you do need the bubbles to help make them rises and make them light and fluffy.
im about to put them in the oven .WOW they were so easy hope the taste as good as they look ……thanks for the recipe ….
You are so welcome ~ I hope you love them! Thanks for visiting and please come back and try other recipes! Please let us know what you think of them!
I made these biscuits this past weekend, they were great! Very easy and moist.
Fran…thanks for posting and letting us know you made them and like them it is always so, so good to hear from you all. Thanks for visiting ! Have a lovely day!
Mine did not fluff up at all !!!! So disappointed!!
I am sorry ~ is your bisquick fresh? Some times if it is older I have been told it will not rise?
I made these tonight, I didn’t have any sour cream so I used plain Greek yogurt instead. They turned out great, and are probably a little healthier : ) Thanks for the delicious recipe!
Wow, Sarah that is a great idea!! We love Greek yogurt here at this house. Think I will try that one too. Thanks for letting us know. Have a lovely day!
I’ll be trying these tomorrow! I do the cooking for our church and we have a dinner coming up and I’ve decided on a “Breakfast dinner”. These would be perfect!
Ohhhh my GOODNESS!!! I made these last night – they were amazing! Not only were they ridiculously easy to make (and quick!!), they came out perfectly! Even the picky, biscuit-snob boyfriend approved. I made a half batch – he only left me two! THANK YOU for giving me my new quick, go-to biscuit!
Beth…so glad you both enjoyed them so fun when you make something and it comes out just as you wanted. Even better when it is so stinking easy huh!! Glad you visited come back soon! Enjoy your day!
What size pan did you use? And what size biscuit cutter?
Mara ~
Biscuit cutter = 2 1/2
Pan size 10.5 X 14.75 pyrex or anchor glass pan
Thanks hope this helps ~ let us know how they come out !! Enjoy!
What size pan and biscuit cutter did you use?
I have just finished eating 3 of these biscuits right in a row. They are SO good!!! I used a biscuit mix that I bought at a bulk store, and a no name sprite/7 up type of pop. My dough was sticky but I had read the comments and knew that was to be expected. I just made sure my parchment paper was well floured and floured my hands regularly as I spread out the dough. I used a glass as my biscuit cutter as I’ve never made biscuits at home before, so never needed one. The glass worked fine as long as I kept it floured as well.
I have NO complaints about these biscuits at all. They fluffed up nicely and they taste so good. I may need to go out and buy myself a biscuit cutter after this.
Thanks for the super easy and super yummy recipe!!
Hi…Kim!! So glad you enjoyed them ~ that is the fun part of cooking, just be a little willing to do your own thing and so many of the times it does come out better than you thought it would! Thanks for letting us know about your batch of non~7up biscuits heee heee ! Angie!!
Mine turned out perfect. A confirmed bachelor, I cut the receipe in half and used Canada Dry Ginger Ale. Teriffic! Melted the butter in the baking dish, then poured the butter in a cup. After putting biscuits in the buttered baking dish, drizzled remaining butter over the top. Used Pioneer Brand baking mix and really hovered around the oven watching them. Set oven to 400 degrees.
Great Ron….so glad you had success! I love the pioneer brand and use it more often than bisquick to be honest. Great fun when you have success! Thanks for letting us know. Thanks for visiting and come back soon. Have a lovely day….smiles Angie
Tried these with the GF Bisquick and I had to modify… 2 Cups GF Bisquick, 3/4 Cup sour cream, ! Cup 7-UP… melted butter in the pan the same, and I baked them @425 for 25 to 30 min. or until golden brown… not bad, not bad at all… and since I have not had biscuits in about 3 years, they were darn good!;)
*! is supposed to be ’1′ cup 7-UP
Barbara ~ glad you enjoyed them! They are fast and easy!! I have a version for my mom at the bottom screen ~
Mom here is a half recipe for you~
2 cups bisquick
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup 7-up
1/4 cup melted butter
They do not need as many as we eat here, most don’t hee heee
Thanks for stopping by and so happy you enjoyed them, please come back soon ! Hope you have a great evening !! Angie
MMMM THESE ARE SO GOOD AND EASY TOOOO!!!
Yea!!! Julian, so glad you enjoyed them! Thanks for letting us know ! Have a lovely day!
These are the most easy biscuits to make and they are beyond delicious!!! My whole family loves them. Thanks so much for sharing
I also made my first batch with homemade Bisquick which is also much cheaper.
Doris ~ great! I am so glad y’all enjoyed them…great when something is easy and wonderful! I have used a home made bisquick mix before too! Thanks for reminding me! Thanks for stoping by and letting us know! Come back and visit again ! Happy Thanksgiving to you! Smiles!
I have trouble with my hands, I was wondering if they would come out okay if I used my mixer to cut the sour cream into the bisquick. I would love to make these for Thanksgiving. I can’t wait to try these.
Shellie, if you have an old fashion pastry cutter that would work or a just a fork. I think a mixer would over do it. If you did use the mixer, you would have to be very careful not to over work your dough. On the lowest setting and on and off like a short bit . You want it to be just like peas not completely mixed in. I wish you great success and I do hope you and your family has a wonderful Thanksgiving! Smiles…let me know how they come out ! smiles!!
All I can say is WOW!! No possible way 3 little items can make anything so delicious. I was gonna use my mixer to cut in the sour cream, but my arthritis wasn’t so bad this morning so I broke out the pastry cutter and went at it. I just called my husband and told him to bring me another box of bisquick, the one recipe’s worth is not gonna do it for tomorrow. Thanks you so much. Now if I can just stop myself from eating too many myself. “s”
Shellie…Great I am so happy they turned out for you and you all liked the biscuits. Thanks for coming back and letting us know you enjoyed them, you have made my day! Happy Thanksgiving to you!
Angie, just made these for dinner, with sausage gravy. I thought I had died and gone to heaven:) I have tried many, many biscuit recipes in my many years of cooking and never, ever had any kind of success with them. Biscuits have always hated me, they wouldn’t rise, were too hard, like hockey pucks. But these turned out super and I was so happy. Thank you so much!
I just made a triple batch and they are so yummy. I used healthy biscuit, light sour cream and diet 7 up and they were still great. Can’t imagine how they would be with extra fat and calories. I used a small cup to cut them and then a spatula to remove from parchment paper to baking dish. Yum Yum!
Melissa, glad you had luck cutting the fat and sugar on these. My mom will have to try it this way too her sugar is high these days and she is having to cut as much as she can…thanks for letting us know! Smiles and have a lovely day!!
Wilhelmina…I am so happy you had success and they are a hit at your house! I just love it when someone loves a recipe I have shared! Sounds yum with sausage gravy oh my yum! Thanks!!
The next time I bake these I think I might brown the butter a little in my black cast iron frying pan and then add the biscuits and bake them. I bet that will work even better if that is possible. Can’t wait to try this.:)
Wilhelmina….I cut the recipe in half and did just this ~ not on purpose, put the skillet on the stove top to melt the butter went a little to long and wal la and said hey what the heck I am just going to bake them in the skillet and wow yum! Got a little more crusted on the bottom but never the less wonderful ! Enjoy!! Thanks for such sweet kind words
A friend’s daughter tried this recipe yesterday and they were yummy. She and I were wondering if anyone has tried freezing them before cooking? It would be great to make up a bunch and freeze for busy school mornings.
Steph ….These are so soft and fluffy ~ for the science part I would be on the side of saying do not think they would rise up nice and fluffy like they do if you make a whole batch. But, I love the try and see method on almost everything I do and many times things do work. I do have other biscuit recipes like pork pops that are great, great make ahead …freeze biscuits. Please try and let us know if it does work…thanks for visiting ~ Merry Christmas to you!
These biscuits were great. Reminds me of the ones my grandmother used to make. I made them to eat with Turkey Noodle soup the day after Christmas…and my family has raved about them. So quick and easy. I will never keep canned biscuits as a go to staple again. These are just too easy to make. Thanks for a great recipe.
Joy….So happy you tried them and liked them. Thanks for coming back and letting us know!! Isn’t it fun when some thing is so easy and yet so yummy ! Happy New Year to you and your family !!
I just found the recipe. How long do I bake them? It says ‘until golden brown’ but I would like something more specific than that, please.
Jane ……for 12 -15 minutes! Hope you enjoy them!! Smiles!
Thank you, Angie! I am fixing them tonight!
Thank you, Angie. I am fixing them tonight.
Jane ~ Hope they turn out wonderful…let us know what cha think. smiles and happy baking!
I wanted to present this particular article, “7-up

My story:
I had a boat load of produce from my co-op. There were rainbow carrots, bags of taters, leeks. Fine fixin’s for the start of a soup. I picked up some sausage, and kale to go along with the fun and threw a soup in a pot. Unfortunately I forgot to buy some compressed biscuits in a can (you see, these are the only biscuits I am skilled enough to make) I sat here (already undressed from my outing because who wears jeans if they can wear pajama pants??) contemplating getting redressed to go get some biscuits, and perusing Pinterest whilst my soup bubbled away making my house air tasty. I saw a recipe, 4 ingredient biscuits it said, BEST I’ve ever made said the caption. I clicked, hopeful. No link! At this moment I had to have the mystery biscuits. My search led here. I fought with myself but then said “SELF! You can give it one more try, it’s gotten so may pins, let’s do this” End of story. FREAKING AMAZING BISCUITS!! Thanks
Sunshyne, I am so glad you tried the 7up biscuits!! I do hope you will try other things on the site too! Thanks for coming back and letting me know, I love hearing from readers. That is what makes it worth while is the fun stories from the readers. The soup sounds wonderful! We all love soup at our house! Thanks and Smiles Angie!
A women made these for a church dinner and they were an instant hit .Everyone wanted the recipe. I made them for a dinner we had for our neighbors.I know it was ther favorit.part of the meal..When they saw me make them, they coulden’t believe how easy it was to make I.don’t use a cookie cutter. I just cut the dough in squares. this makes it even easier, no waste to deal with..I will be making them for Easter for my family. We may have a new family tradition. They are soooo delicous.
thanks for the recipe.
Ruth…thanks dear! I am so glad you and your family liked them. Easy and wonderful an instant hit in my book ! I make them in squares too some of the time. We have had many conversations at our house about square biscuits my dad says that is “Just Wrong”……does not matter the shape to me…cause it is like you say there is no waste and they taste the same. Told him to close his eyes and enjoy does not matter yum is yum square or round….smiles, Angie
cant wait to try the 7-up biscuits
I made some 7-up biscuits, the first time; they didn’t look much like a biscuit, but the taste was good. I made another batch tonight, turned out pretty good, and they even looked like a biscuit. Lol
These Biscuits came out perfectly. They are soft and great tasting. I made them for a friend that requested me make them for him. I believe he is going to be very happy with the results. They came out exactly as they did in the photo. I will certainly be making these again.
Dawn….great, I am so happy you guys are happy with the Biscuits! It is always exciting to hear a recipe turned out for a reader and they enjoyed their results ! YEA Success !! Thanks for returning and letting me know, makes it all worth while to hear positive feed back! Thanks and have a lovely day!! Angie
Today I am making them again but double layering them and between the layers I am adding chopped up bacon and cheese.
Dawn….Oh goodness that sounds Deelightful! Please let us know what you think of them cuz that sounds yumO. Might have to try that one my self!
Everyone loved them with the bacon and cheese. But, they must be eaten hot out of the over or the cheese gets hard. But hot out of the oven. They cleaned the plate !
Dawn…thanks for letting us know. They sound amazing with the bacon and cheese. I think I will try mixing them in with the bisquick then add the sour cream and 7up. I have another biscuit recipe on the blog, pork pops that are made that way. Thanks for the update ~ Smiles and happy baking!
Max….so glad you stuck with it and your persistence paid off for you. I bet if you make them one more time yours will look better than mine. Keep us posted on your progress. Happy baking…smiles Angie
These were super easy and super tasty! Thanks for a great recipe that my whole family loved
Michele, Thanks so happy you all liked them. Thanks for visiting and hope you come back again and try another recipe. smiles….
I have made these several times and they have been perfect every time! Thank you for this recipe. I use Pioneer instead of Bisquick. Perfect every time. Yummy!
I am so glad you enjoyed them…yea!! I love Pioneer products, I have even been to their plant years ago. Glad to know it works just as well. I love their beignet mix oh goodness yummo ! Thanks for visiting!
where can i find the sour cream?
thanks!
@sara ~ it should be in the diary section of your grocery store. In mine it is by the yogurt and milk. Best of luck let us know what cha think.Happy baking!
best recipes ever,
awwww thank you!! Smiles and happy baking!! Angie
Just waiting for these to bake!
Yummy!!! Yummy!!! is all I can say.
I just made these and the are unbelievable… After reading all the comments I had to make them. One thing I did was make sure they were not too big I got 20 biscuits in the 9×13 baking dish and they were side by side no room to move them. Will be making these often!!!
Diana….so glad you like them and you had success ! Happy Baking and please come back and try another recipe. Smiles and hope to see ya real soon….Angie
I made these for the first time with light sour cream (I’d gotten it by mistake) and they were delicious – especially with honey! I used Pioneer brand instead of Bisquick and floured the waxed paper and top of the dough as I patted it and never had to flour the biscuit cutter. I highly recommend this recipe!
Thanks Sue!! Thanks for the wonderful recommendations! Have a wonderful day !! Happy Baking! Angie
Anybody every try cooking these in a cast iron dutch oven?
Darrell…I have and it does work beautifully ! Try it and let us know what you think. I have a huge one and love using it….but many people do not have those so ~ I used a more common pan. I bake the New York bread in it too love it! Happy Baking~ Angie
7up7 bu biscuits
Looks like a great recipe
easy and good.
Looking forward to more of your excellent re, thank you:-) cipes
Yum
did not work for me and I don’t know what I did wrong. I wanted to try this receipe because I CANNOT make these things anyway you can name. guess I will stick to pop-ups.
Nancy….I do have a video on the site now that shows this step by step if you want to try again and follow along. Thanks, Angie
Linda, this is the biscuits I made while at Mom’s. I did it wrong but they still turned out to be the lightest and fluffiest biscuits I have ever had. LOVED THEM.
http://www.angiessouthernkitchen.com/2012/06/7-up-biscuits/
These are off the chain a must try
Connie….Wow thanks!! Glad you liked them what could be better easy and great ~ Right? Thanks have a great day !!! Smiles Angie
Forget cutting circles. Just cut the dough to the number of squares you want to make and place them in the pan. They end up square anyway and no waste. And believe me you don’t want to waste any of these yummy biscuits.
That is a great idea and you are right they do end up square in the end….Thanks!! Angie
I didn’t have Bisquick mix so I googled how to make it and tried a full recipe but that is too many so next time I have enough for a half batch. They were very good, everyone in my family agrees they are similar to KFC biscuits but fluffier. FYI Biscquick recipe: 6 C. Flour, 1 T Salt, 3 T Baking Powder mixed together then cut in 1 C Crisco, put it in airtight container in fridge, use as needed.
Great Christine !!! I will try this next time! Thanks for adding the homemade Bisquick recipe! Glad your family enjoyed them!! Have a lovely day and happy baking…Angie
